Monthly Archives: June 2019

I guessed the right number, it was 65.

Prestatyn High school Maths Transition
On Wednesday 19th June 2019 me, Oliver and Joe went to Prestatyn High School for a Maths Transition. When we got there we were met by Miss Roberts and she showed us where the Maths classroom was. The Maths classroom was full of times tables and books. When we got into the classroom we had to figure out a Maths problem on the board. It asked what was the best way to keep your room tidy so you can get money? I put you get 1 p and you double it every week and it was right because once you get to the 13th week it gets to about 80 pounds and if you double that you get 160 pounds so the 1p was the best. The next thing we did was coordinates. It was meant to look like a tree but instead it looked like a bunch of scribbles. The second sheet was meant to be the Eiffel Tower and it looked like the Eiffel Tower. After that we had to finish a Maths Caterpillar and find which number at the start would make the longest Caterpillar. I guessed the right number, it was 65. It made 14 numbers on the Caterpillar. Once we did that we went back to school.

She was nice and helped us when we needed help.

Yesterday I went to Prestatyn High School to do a maths session, it was fun. We all thought it was going to be a test, but it wasn’t, which was good. It was just a fun little session packed with a few brain bogglers. Our teacher was called Ms. Broughton. She was nice and helped us when we needed help.

We had to figure out what was the best deal if you tidy your room.

On Thursday 19th of June 2019 Joe, Lily T and I went to Prestatyn high school to a maths Transition. First I sat into Miss Gorton’s class along with other children from different schools and there was a puzzle on the white board. We had to figure out what was the best deal if you tidy your room.I put on my piece of paper to have a pound each week and it doubles, but the correct answer was to have a penny each week and the price doubled each week. After about 20 minutes on that activity we made a graph and worked out some sums to plot some coordinates to make a tree but mine didn’t turn out well!I then tried to make a landmark using coordinates. We didn’t get to finish that because we had to move on to make caterpillars with numbers in them.We figured out that if the number was odd you added one number to make an even number to half it and when we get to one we stop.We had to make the smallest caterpillar and the longest the longest caterpillar was starting at the number 65. The first person who found that number was Lily T.We then realised that it was time to go back to school.

Prestatyn High School English Transition .

On Friday 14th June I went to Prestatyn High to do an English transition . When I got there I was greeted by Miss Moore, along with children from other schools, and she lead us in to the school library.

The library was massive and full of books and tables . We sat down and wrote our names on a stick of paper while she did the register . Once we did that we walked over to the projector and watched a video all about Daisy the car . Daisy is a yellow and white car who has been on a lot of adventures . She’s been to France, Sahara desert and Morocco!! Our task for that day was to create a adventure for Daisy in a story!!

Next we trotted off to our tables and sat down with our MAT helpers from year 8.We  were handed a booklet each and opened it.

And then they left

On Tuesday 21st May
People from Talacre beach came to talk to us. We did activities about the war and how Talacre was used. Our first activity was a map and we had to put all the things on the map with a key. After that we did the food rationing. We had to sort them out into groups: one side was rationed food and the other side was food that was un-rationed. Then we made posters to convince people to eat healthily. Next we went to the area with a true story and we matched objects to each paragraph. Finally we did the activity where we had potato sack and we threaded coloured fabric into the potato sack and we made a rug. Afterwards the people asked us questions and then they left.

We did lots of jobs

I thought that it was fun. We did lots of jobs at different stations like guessing what objects went with the information. I looked at the food that was rationed and what they did to Talacre beach.

Talacre beach workshop
This week on Tuesday, 3 women came in to talk about how Talacre beach was used in WW2 .We started off by listening to a video about a woman who lived on Talacre beach who had escaped from Liverpool during WW2 . It told us about how she lived there and all about the war planes practicing on the beach and what it was like living there.
