I already knew that
A man called Steve came into train us how to do first aid and how to save someone’s life. First Steve taught us the DR ABC code. It’s this: Danger
Response (shout, talk, gently shake)
Airway
Breathing
Circulation.
After that he taught us the recovery position and Steve taught us how to get the person into the position and then he told us the numbers to call the ambulance: 999 and 112. Next we were taught if the person was choking we would have to give them a hard pat on the back five times but I already knew that . What I did not know was there was something called the abdominal thrust. Then he taught us how to do CPR which stands for cardio pulmonary resuscitation and I already knew how to do that as well. Then the final part- the defibrillator. There are 2 pads; one for the side and one on the heart. Also the defibrillator can talk! It tests your heart and until the heart works it will keep on shocking you but if your heart still works it does not shock you.

Tom and I were partners for the recovery position and we got it right the first time!
Wednesday 23rd May First Aid
Hello there its Tom and Finlay.
We did first aid today. It was really fun and exciting. We found out how to help people when they are not breathing or choking. Tom and I were partners for the recovery position and we got it right the first time! We also found out how to help people who will not respond to our voice. First you check for Danger then you say, “Hello can you hear me?” in both ears in case they are deaf. Then if they don’t respond you give them a gentle nudge on their shoulder. If they don’t respond again you call 999 or 112. If they’re choking you tap on their back 5 times and if it doesn’t come out you lift up their arms and go to the belly and push it in their body and it should come out. If not do it again.

Firstly we learned all about the “Primary Survey” which Steve could remember by “Doctor ABC”.
On Monday 23rd May 2018, Year 5 and 6 did a first aid class with a paramedic called Steve. Firstly we learned all about the “Primary Survey” which Steve could remember by “Doctor ABC”. These points were………
– D – Danger/ Look around to make sure everything is safe.
– R – Response/ Ask the Casualty a question / Give them a command / Give them a GENTLE shake.
– A – Airways/ Make sure the wind pipe is free by putting 2 fingers underneath the chin and 2 fingers on the fore head.
– B – Breathing/ Make sure the Casualty is breathing by seeing if their chest is moving, putting your hand by the Casualty’s mouth or trying to listen to the breath by putting your ear to the mouth of the Casualty.
– C – Circulation/ You need to check for any blood around the injured person.
After that we learned to and how to call the Ambulance, because at any time through the “DRABC” we can call 999 and 112 if we get worried.
We then learned how to get into the recovery position.
First you….
1.You take the closest hand and put it on the ground as if it is giving you a high five.
2.Then you put the furthest hand and put it on the patient’s cheek you’ll have to hold it in place.
3.You then put the furthest leg and bend it up into a pyramid.
4.Roll the casualty onto its side.
5.Put the bent leg into a “L” shape on the floor to keep your patient comfortable.
6.Stay with them until the ambulance get to where you and the casualty are.
We then got into partners. We were together practicing the recovery position.
CPR
We went outside and practiced CPR on dummies. We did 30 chest pumps and a few people did mouth to mouth.

We pushed a mannequin and gave it breaths for life
On Wednesday 23rd of May Year 5 and 6 had a man called Steve visit. Steve was from the ambulance. First we had to listen and then we put our friend in the recovery position and we swapped round so we were having a go at being injured and being helpful and saving lives. The next thing we did was C.P.R. We pushed a mannequin and gave it breaths for life. We did work on a defibrillator too.

It’s like buying time before the professionals take over
On the 23rd of May a person from the emergency services came in to teach us the basics of CPR like the recovery position. He was explaining about what to do if one of your family members or anyone in general needs help and how to save their life. It’s like buying time before the professionals take over. Ben said, “It was fun and I have learned a lot of things.” We got to do proper CPR on mannequins some of us did mouth to mouth!

There is nothing to be scared about it is pretend
So today we did a lesson about CPR and choking. We used a shock machine we can practice on. There was lots to learn about. It was fun and we all volunteered. There is nothing to be scared about it is pretend but it can help in real life. When you need help you can get a ambulance by calling 999 or 112. You can call it even on holiday. We learned lots and lots. Have fun and keep safe by Lucy and Gabriel

Steve taught us how to save lives
What I liked about the first aid was that Steve taught us how to save lives. He taught us how to do CPR. We used dummies. There were two hard ones and two softer ones. I used the softer one. He also taught us how to do the recovery position and showed us a thing that you use to get someone’s heart going again.

The best thing is it talks to you so if you don’t know what to do it will tell you
On Wednesday 23rd a man called Steve came in and showed us first aid. Everyone loved it! First he came in and showed us a power point all about the Primary Survey. The Primary Survey shows kids stuff like DR ABC; each letter is a word. D=Danger: When you see someone on the floor you need to look around for danger.
R=Response: You need to aproach them and shout in both of their ears and see if they respond if not we call this unresponsive. A=Airway: When they’re on their back they can’t breathe because their tongue is blocking their airway.
B=Bleeding:look for bleeding.C= Circulation:Check for circulation.
After that we did that on each other and that was awsome!!!!! Then we worked on choking if someone chokes you need to pat them hard on the back 5 times. If that doesn’t work you have to put your hands under their arms and squeeze really hard and it should come out. If not call 999 or 112. At the end we did CPR on a dummy and you had to press down on the middle of the person, we had to do that about 30 times!!!!!!! At the very end we saw something called the defibrilllator and it can save about 70% of lives!!!!!!!!! The defibrillator has two eletric shockers and that will help the blood pump round again, the best thing is it talks to you so if you don’t know what to do it will tell you, all in all I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
