Working with an artist

DAY ONE WITH ARTIST RUTH

On Monday the 30th of January we went to Talacre bird hide for our art theme of birds. We met Ruth Thomas and Dave from the RSPB there and two women too. We were there for around 2 hours and 30 minutes. By this time we were freezing, about to turn to ice. We weren’t allowed to hang out of the window other wise the birds would fly away because they would be scared. Before we left we had our lunch and as a surprise Miss Fisher brought us some hot chocolate, marshmallows and sweets.
We left the hide and went to look for more birds but this time we went to see the plants to compare them to the galapogas island plants. There were four birds we were looking at in particular, black-tailed godwit, curlew, shelduck and pintails. I had a book about all the british birds around the world and those four birds were in there too. WE HAD A BRILLIANT DAY!!!!!!!!! Then we went back to the bus and came back to school.

DAY TWO WITH ARTIST RUTH

This morning to afternoon we are making our paper stencils and collage plates.

Our trip to Talacre

On Monday 30th of January, year 5&6 went to Talacre to go bird watching in a bird hide. We had to walk a long way to get to the bird hide!! When we got there we met a man that works for the RSPB and Ruth Thomas. The main birds that we were looking for we had already worked on in school were pintails, shelduck, curlew and a black tail godwit. We were there for about 1 hour and 30 mins. In the bird hide we used binoculars to look at the birds through the the open windows. We weren’t allowed to hang out of the window otherwise the birds would see us and wouldn’t we be able to see the birds because they would have seen us and they would be scared. We looked for about 1 hour at the birds and then we had lunch and Miss Fisher was very kind and gave us had hot-chocolate with marsh-mallows in them and we had drumstick squashies. After we had our lunch we carried on walking and we stopped and looked through the binoculars and then we went onto the beach and looked at more birds, but I think we were a bit too loud because there wasn’t a lot of birds on the beach. It was freezing cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we went on the bus and went back to school!!! IT WAS A FANTASTIC TIME IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Tuesday 31st of January we worked with Ruth Thomas doing art we did paper stencils and collage plates for the whole day!!!!!

Maths Workshop at Holywell High

  1. EveRanda says:

On the 23 January 3 children from Trelawnyd school went to Holywell high school for more able and talented in maths. When we walked in to the school it looked very neat and tidy. Our teacher was called Mr Lloyd he was very nice. The first puzzle was to make a square out of a shape by only cutting one line.(it was a bit hard)
After that Mr Lloyd started talking about stars, that we were made of star dust, then we did work on drawing stars with nine dots, every time we did it we missed a dot out.At 11 o’clock we had a quick break. After that we did more work on stars.
At 12 ‘o clock we had lunch and Seren and I were looking around and saying how good the school was. When we came back from being out side we were doing angles we had to work out what the angles of crossed lines (now that was hard)
I am really looking forward to going in March

  2. SerenJones says:

On Monday me, Eve and Jake went to Holywell high school. On the way there Mrs fisher got lost trying to find the car park so she just parked in the BUS STOP! When we got there it was really nice but it looked fairly small. We met 2 year 11 students in the reception called Nathan and James and they took us upstairs to our ‘class room’. That is where we met Mr Lloyd – our teacher for the day, he was very jolly and he gave us a sticky to write our names on (so he knows) and a folder to put our names on – to store all the work we did. So the first thing we did was squares,(actually it was not there was an alarm and every one panicked BUT good old Lloyd said “DON’T WORRY FOLKS THAT’S ONLY THE STUDENT BELL FOR THEIR NEXT LESSON DON’T PANIC! “) so we had some nets on the paper and we had to make ONE straight cut and had to move the cut of piece to fit INTO the other one and make a square, (that was very hard) By now 2 more students came in; Lucy and Lucie.
Next he went on about STARS so we had to draw some missing 1 ‘point’ then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5! (did you know we are stars! that’s right, we are made by stardust!), and then to triangles we had to DRAW and IDENTIFY them.
after that (which took FOREVER!) we went downstairs for a break and we had JUICE AND TOAST, eve had her hula hoops I had my skips and Jake stuck with the toast.
After break we were looking at angles and we had to find angles with NO PROTRACTOR!! But it was fun, so that took forever because we did 2. So now we are talking lunch but that was normal. All the students thought we were cute, we went out side.
Back in class it was 20 to 1 and we found out about the Radius, Diameter and the circumference. We found out about pi and on the 14th of march it is pi day because of the first 3 numbers = 3.14 and then there is a billion gazillion trillion million more numbers but basically pi means 3.14.

  3. JakeScarll says:

On Monday 23 January we went to Holywell high school to do maths for 5 hours, there we had toast and juice in the morning and own pack lunch in the after noon. We learnt about pi; it is an infinite amount of numbers and that we were made from stardust and stardust is saying that we were a great creation.
After that we did some strange shapes that then we had to change into a square and none of the other schools got them all and we didn’t get them all either. We had a teacher called Mr Loyd and some helpers called Nathan,James, Lucie and Lucy. we also did some Isosceles triangles
