The best thing is it talks to you so if you don’t know what to do it will tell you
On Wednesday 23rd a man called Steve came in and showed us first aid. Everyone loved it! First he came in and showed us a power point all about the Primary Survey. The Primary Survey shows kids stuff like DR ABC; each letter is a word. D=Danger: When you see someone on the floor you need to look around for danger.
R=Response: You need to aproach them and shout in both of their ears and see if they respond if not we call this unresponsive. A=Airway: When they’re on their back they can’t breathe because their tongue is blocking their airway.
B=Bleeding:look for bleeding.C= Circulation:Check for circulation.
After that we did that on each other and that was awsome!!!!! Then we worked on choking if someone chokes you need to pat them hard on the back 5 times. If that doesn’t work you have to put your hands under their arms and squeeze really hard and it should come out. If not call 999 or 112. At the end we did CPR on a dummy and you had to press down on the middle of the person, we had to do that about 30 times!!!!!!! At the very end we saw something called the defibrilllator and it can save about 70% of lives!!!!!!!!! The defibrillator has two eletric shockers and that will help the blood pump round again, the best thing is it talks to you so if you don’t know what to do it will tell you, all in all I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One person had to put the vest on, and the other person had to save them from choking by hitting them 5 times on their back
Wednesday 23rd May morning.
Year 5 and 6 did a First Aid workshop. The man who taught us to do First Aid was called Steve. The first thing we did was learn about DR ABC.
D- danger
R- response
A- airway
B- bleeding
C- circulation
The man was from St. John’s.
The next thing we did was learn how to put people in the recovery position. It was really fun! When we had our first go at doing the recovery position, Steve was talking us through it. Once your partner did it to you, you would swap over so that you do it to your partner. Next we did about choking. We learnt how to save people when they are choking. One person had to put the vest on, and the other person had to save them from choking by hitting them 5 times on their back. Then put you put your arms underneath theirs, then you put one of your hands on your fist and make sure that it is on their stomach. Then you pull really hard and the thing they were choking on should come out, (a foam bullet.) Then we did some CPR on some dummies. Some of us did mouth to mouth. The last thing we did was watch Steve put a defibrillator on one of the dummies, but it didn’t really shock it because it was a training one. We had so much fun today!!!

His job was to train people in the art of first aid.
This morning a man called Steve came in and talked to us about about first aid and CPR. He came from St John’s. His job was to train people in the art of first aid. He told us how to do CPR and we practiced it on some dummies. Some of us chose to do mouth to mouth: Alex and Tom also Isaac. After that we were told how to use a defibrillator and we were shown all the methods on how to get things out of someone’s airway by using the heimlich manoeuvre.
Steve taught us life saving and CPR
We all got into the hall and Steve taught us life saving and CPR. Steve showed us how to do CPR with dummies. We learned about DRABC. It means danger, recover, air way, bleeding and circulation. After breaktime we went outside and did CPR on dummies and learned what to do when someone was choking.
we had to wait 1 and a half hours for breakfast
On the 23rd of April most of year 6 went to Nant Bwlch yr Haearn for 3 days. When we got there we had a jacket potato. Then we went gorge scrambling. Will and Tom tried not to get wet and failed in the first 10 minutes but it was fun! The first slide we came across was called the Elephant’s Bum. I was getting really cold at that point THEN we went under a waterfall! I kept slipping.
We got back to Nant BH. We went to our dorms and got ready for tea. It was pasta, it was nice 🙂 .
We went orienteering (searching for things on a map). Me and Liam were on a team called ‘Ringo Venus’ and we came third.
Then we went back to the dorms, got into our pyjamas and went to the kitchen and had a hot chocolate and biscuits. Will and Will Walsh definitely didn’t eat all the pink wafers!!
It was hard to sleep because everyone were swapping beds! Eventually I got to sleep ready for the next day.
We all woke up around 6:30 clock so we had to wait 1 and a half hours for breakfast.

When I got there I enjoyed it
Nant BH
I was not looking forward to going to Nant BH but I was packing the day berfore. I didn’t want to go but I had to. When I got there I enjoyed it.
We got our wet suits on and water proofs and went gorge walking. It was amazing! We went through waterfalls and climbed on rocks. I slipped and nearly went down the waterfall! We swam through the elphant’s bum. It’s a squash to get in!!!
For tea we had a jacket potato- I didn’t like it so we went back to the dorms. We had a boy dorm and a girl dorm. I settled in more.
The second day we went to a cave. We had to walk up a big hill and then we went in to a mine shaft. We climbed a huge wall and we had to abseil down the huge wall. I didn’t like the wall!
For tea we had fish finger and chips.
On day 3 we got ready and packed early- by quarter past 7! We got our gear on and harnesses so we didn’t fall onto the ground when we went rope climbing.
it was worth the ride
Nant B H in welsh : NANT BWLCH YR HAEARN
23rd of April
Day 1
Nant B H was very far away. It took an hour to get there but it was worth the ride. When we got there we sat in the dinner hall to talk about the rules, then when we went to our dorms. Ours was quite big. When we got used to our dorms we unpacked our stuff and got to our beds. Underneath me was Charlie K and next to me was Will D. When we finished packing we went to the dinner hall to have our lunch and the lunch was jacket potato. It was really nice. On my table was Alex, Finlay,Will W and I. Will W didn’t like jacket potato so he didn’t have anything. When we finished our jacket potato we went to our dorms to tidy them because in half an hour it was dorm inspection. We started to panic because our dorms were untidy, but we just did it in the nick of time. When Steff came in to our dorms he said it was tidy, then he said what to wear for the gorge scrambling, then to meet at the drying room.
We all got dressed super fast. When I was dressed I went straight to the drying room to get my waterproofs on because Sheryl said we were going to get soaked. When we were all ready we went onto the bus and went straight there. It was a half an hour journey but I thought it took 10 minutes!
When we got there we had to climb a hill, but it was really steep. When we got to the top we could hear water running down the waterfall, so we knew we were close. On the bus me and Will D made a deal. We said we will try not to get wet, but when we saw the first course we knew we were going to get wet! We jumped over it so we didn’t get wet but we knew it was luck. We carried on walking but we got wet because we had to jump across. It was big but I ……. made it. Then we had to jump in to get to the other side so it was mission failed for me and Will D.
We kept walking down but we all had jobs, so when it was my turn I had to stand on the edge and people had to do a starfish around me and land on a root, so it was really risky. Everybody made it through the edge then we had to walk a bit. We went through elephant’s bum. It was dark and scary for me but it was quite fun to do the experience. It was freezing so I quickly jumped out of the water. We went down a slide -that was really fun, but still cold. When we got out we had to walk down the hill which wore me out.
When I got in the bus I was shattered. All of us wanted to go to sleep but we couldn’t. When we got back it was tea time and everyone was starving for tea. It was pasta bolognese with sweetcorn. It was lovely, it was heaven. I had seconds of it but I was too full to have thirds or pudding. I was stuffed.
After our tea we had to get our waterproofs on and meet at the top classroom. When I got dressed I went to the drying room. It was like a hot tub it was that hot. We needed waterproofs on for orienteering -it is map finding. It was me and Charlie. We were called ‘Space Warcraft.’ It was tricky. We got 1 2 3 but we couldn’t find 4! It took us forever to find. The next round we came 2nd then the next round we came 1st eventually 🙂. Another group lost Will W so we helped them, it affected our time but my mate was more than a game. We couldn’t find him so we went in. As soon we went in, he came in! So everyone was happy.
After Orienteering we went to our dorms and got our pj’s on then we went to the dining hall to have hot chocolate and biscuits. I had custard creams and a bourbon. We went to our dorms and got into our beds and played till lights out. I wanted to stay awake for a bit but Alex got really home sick so we went to bed at 10:30. We didn’t have a clock in our room so we had to go in the hall way to see the time.
Day 2
We all got up at 6:00 and got dressed and played till 8:00. Breakfast was bacon, smiley faces and hoops. It was nice, really nice. After we had breakfast we did sandwich making. I had a ham bun, crisps and fruit because we had to use it for the cave we had to go and get dressed for the cave and get our waterproofs on.
We had loads of fun
26 april 2018 Nant Bwlch yr Haearn trip
On Monday yr 6 went to Nant BH accept Ben B. We had loads of fun. When we got there we went into the dining room and got introduced to the staff who were going to be with us during our stay. Our instructors were Cheryl, Jamie, Steph and Nick.
we failed in the first 2 minutes

Me and Tom tried not to get wet but we failed in the first 2 minutes- it was still fun! The first slide we came across was called the elephant’s bum 😮 I was getting really cold at that point. We got back to Nant BH. We went to our dorms got ready for tea. It was pasta- it was nice. We went orienteering (searching for things on a map). Me, Will Walsh and Finlay were on a team called ‘Cosmic Unicorn’ and we won! Our time was 19:53.

Trudy the cook didn’t make any beans
On the 23rd of April yr 6, except Ben B, all went to Nant B H for two nights and three days. We were all really excited and just couldn’t wait for the day to arrive, one thing we were all a bit disappointed about was that we were not allowed to pack sweets and chocolate, but I understand that they want to be a healthy company.
I packed on Friday and put all of my stuff into the suitcase on Sunday.
We all arrived in school with our luggage and put it in the hall, we then hopped onto RMaths and 10:00 am soon came really quickly. Before we got on the bus, the bus driver was confused because he thought that we were going to Conwy and said that we were coming back at 2:00 pm in the afternoon- but we weren’t! He then phoned up and everything then started to make sense. We all jumped on the bus and an hour’s journey also went really quickly and we all arrived at Nant B H. We were welcomed by Cheryl and had a quick talk about the course for the time we were there. We then had lunch which was a tasty jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, but Trudy the cook didn’t make any beans. After that we went back to our dorms to unpack and do our bedding and also have a fire drill ( which I loved because I love fire alarms. We waited for 5 minutes for the alarm and I was near the door ready to leg it. It was super loud.
After that we went to the equipment and climbing chapel for water proofs and a wetsuit ready to do gorge walking. It was really slippery, so much so that Will W slipped but he wasn’t wearing the correct foot wear- were you Walsh!?! We were all traffic monitors. There were some really slippery bits near the elephant’s bum, which is basically two rocks really close together that we had to slide through. I got really claustrophobic, but before long it was all over and we were in the bus on the way back to a warm cosy Nant B H shower. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
We stayed in our dorms for about 45 minutes and then had tea. For tea we had pasta bolognaise which was tasty. In the evening we did orienteering which was fun My group was me, Cerys and Freya. We would have won but the last map was really hard. We came second but Jamie the instructor said there wasn’t a prize for the people who come second!
8:00 pm
Jamie unlocked the games room and we played in there until 9:15 pm and then it was wind down time and lights out was 10:pm, although I was flat out by 11:10 pm #exhausted.
Day 2
Today we woke up at 6:00 am and we were just chatting for hours about nonsense, then tasty breakfast was at 8:00 am and we then got ready to go in the mines, we had a massive walk up slate mines and mountains and she said it was just a little walk! #liar. We then went into the forest for another 20 minutes and finally we reached the gates of the mine. We eventually reached really far into the mine, so much so that we couldn’t see daylight.
