Wednesday 23rd May morning.
Year 5 and 6 did a First Aid workshop. The man who taught us to do First Aid was called Steve. The first thing we did was learn about DR ABC.
D- danger
R- response
A- airway
B- bleeding
C- circulation
The man was from St. John’s.
The next thing we did was learn how to put people in the recovery position. It was really fun! When we had our first go at doing the recovery position, Steve was talking us through it. Once your partner did it to you, you would swap over so that you do it to your partner. Next we did about choking. We learnt how to save people when they are choking. One person had to put the vest on, and the other person had to save them from choking by hitting them 5 times on their back. Then put you put your arms underneath theirs, then you put one of your hands on your fist and make sure that it is on their stomach. Then you pull really hard and the thing they were choking on should come out, (a foam bullet.) Then we did some CPR on some dummies. Some of us did mouth to mouth. The last thing we did was watch Steve put a defibrillator on one of the dummies, but it didn’t really shock it because it was a training one. We had so much fun today!!!
